BRAZILIANITE is a precious gemstone, discovered in 1944 in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a hydrous sodium aluminum phosphate mineral, usually found in granite pegmatites. Crystals form in the Monoclinic crystal system. Hardness is 5.5 on the Mohs scale.
