Cluster of large, green, translucent FLUORITE crystals with several CALCITE crystals. The Fluorite fluoresces Blue under long-wave UV light. Specimen is 6.1 inches in length. Largest Fluorite cube is 3.5 inches long. All Fluorite crystals have beveled edges, usually with etching. This specimen is from the collection of Roger Maynard. Roger is a friend and was a long-time geologist with the US Geological Survey.

FLUORITE is a calcium fluoride mineral. It belongs to the Isometric crystal system. Crystals of fluorite are usually cubes, sometimes octahedrons, and rarely dodecahedrons. Fluorite fluoresces blue under long-wave ultraviolet light. Hardness is 4 on the Mohs scale. Fluorite occurs as hydrothermal veins, as cavities in sedimentary rocks, as a cementing material in sandstones, and as hotsprings deposits. Fluorite occurs in many colors including green, purple, lilac, golden-yellow, colorless, blue, pink, champagne, and brown depending on the impurities within the fluorite.
