High quality MOSASAURUS Tooth with sharp edges, perfect tip. The bottom provides a good view of the enamel and dentin. This tooth is from late Cretaceous age, about 70 million years ago. Length is 1.8 inches. Slight wear on one edge. This tooth is from the phosphate deposits in the Khourigba area of northern Morocco. These deposits represent the ancient Tethys Sea that covered north Africa and Europe.

Probably the most well-known Mosasaurus is the Tylosaurus mosasaur in the Jurassic World movie. The Tylosaurus mosasaur grew to about 50 feet and is believed to be the largest mosasaur to exist. Mosasaurs are NOT Dinosaurs. They are Reptiles and are closely related to monitor lizards and snakes. The first described mosasaur fossils were found in a limestone quarry along the Meuse River in Holland in 1764. The name Mosasaurus means “Lizard of the Meuse River”. They could eat most anything. Stomach contents of mosasaurs include ammonites, bony fish, sea turtles, plesiosaurs, and even sea birds. Like snakes, the double-hinged jaw of the mosasaurus allowed it to swallow its prey whole. Although mosasaurs were aquatic, they were reptiles, which means they had to surface to breathe air, like a sea turtle today.
