We are often asked about our choice of business name. It has so many deeper meanings than face value that it is hard to describe. One of the many reasons is that with minerals and fossils, nature had to experience a bit of chaos in order to create the beautiful creations it offers. A little background information might give you a better idea of some of the deeper, hidden meanings behind our business name.

Kris and I created our business on a shoestring in 2008. It came from a shared passion of minerals and fossils. In the beginning it was really just a way to offset some of the costs of our hobby. We would purchase minerals in bulk or find them, keep our favorites, and offer up for sale anything that we did not keep. While we had a slow start due to finances today it provides full time employment to me, as a stay at home mother who homeschools two beautiful young boys.

At the time when we created our business I was pregnant with our oldest child, Kai. We were in a huge transitional time. I had just come off of many years of traveling domestically and abroad while getting an education. Kris was experiencing a transition from the landscaping industry that he had been in for many years to construction. We had just gotten married and begun to start our lives together.

As time went on we made the decision to move to Colorado for awhile. At the time it appeared to be our best opportunity to grow our business and be productive. As I said, in the beginning it was very slow going. We did all kinds of odd jobs in Colorado to pay the bills as we slowly began to grow our business. Luckily, being in Colorado gave us a great opportunity to do a lot more collecting ourselves over purchasing for resale.

Today we strive to remain humble to our beginnings. We continue to collect our own minerals and fossils and encourage our sons to do the same. We came into this business as passionate collectors and remain that way today. It truly makes us happy to be able to share with the rockhound community this passion. It is a great feeling to be able to connect individuals to these beautiful gifts from nature at an affordable price.
